By Josephine Reynolds

The Stow-Monroe Falls softball team defeated the Solon Comets in an outstanding 17-5 victory. After a losing streak that extended throughout the last two games, this win puts Stow in a great position moving forward for the rest of the season.

The first inning is where the Lady Bulldogs really flourished. Aiyana Williams, of the Lady Bulldogs, hit a double to start it all off. Shortly after, Terah Bentley, of the Lady Bulldogs, was awarded the walk to first advancing Williams to second. Next up to bat was Lexi Watson, who hit a double that ended up in two points scored for the Lady Bulldogs.

One of those runs was scored by Aiyana Williams. Williams was able to score three runs total during the game. She also made a key play at third base later in the game that helped the Lady Bulldogs maintain their lead.

Another key player amongst the Lady Bulldogs for this inning was Olivia Patterson. Not only did Patterson hit two amazing balls, but as the starting pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs, she was also able to strike out the Comets early on preventing them from scoring at all in the first. Patterson was also the only pitcher put in for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the first inning, going into the second they were up 8-0.

The second inning started out promising for the Comets. Emily Few, of the Comets, scored the first run for the team, putting the Comets finally on the board. However, the Lady Bulldogs were able to get the three outs for the quick turn around at bat.

Carrie Winkler, of the Lady Bulldogs, scored her first run of the game by stealing home plate. Shortly after, Abby Holland scored herself also by stealing home plate. The Comets really struggled with their pitchers during the game as they had three different ones throughout. The steals were only really allowed due to wild pitches thrown by the Comets’ last pitcher, Kyla Singer.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained their lead, adding five additional runs by the conclusion of the second inning to bring the score to 13-1.

Breezing over a scoreless third, and into the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs continued their incredible gameplay not only at bat, but in the field, as well. Hannah Berringer, of the Lady Bulldogs caught a massive flyball at the top of the fourth. Berringer also made some other great plays within the inning to secure the outs right away. Going into the fifth inning, the score was 17-1.

As the Comets went up to bat, you could tell there was some fight still left in the team. The Comets quickly got their bases loaded at the top of the fifth. This was a first for the Comets the entire game. Grace Gerhard, of the Comets, hit a double that sent two more runs up on the board for the Comets. The scorers were Izzy Shima, and Kennedy Prelog.

Even with this drive for some sort of action for the Comets, they unfortunately gained momentum too late, resulting in the loss against the Lady Bulldogs.

Other notable point scorers of the game; Evan Barmen, of the Comets. Natalie Gelonese, and Maddy Lagasse of the Lady Bulldogs.
