Magnificat softball saw 3 of their games get cancelled last week, they have seen 2 of their first 3 games get cancelled this week, bringing it to a staggering 15 games already cancelled this season. They are not alone as there has been cancellations and postponements all over Northeast Ohio Softball. Something needs to change!
While we all wish we could change the weather, we simply cannot. But what we can change and need to look into, is when these games are played. Why not make softball a fall sport in high school? You may run into some crossover with soccer, volleyball and tennis, but outside of that small drawback, it is almost all positive to make the move.
The weather in the fall is far better than the weather in the spring. Eric Wheeler, Manager of Magnificat Softball, recently penned this open letter to the OHSAA with his insight and suggestion for Softball to be moved back to the fall.
In the letter, Wheeler elaborates how weather not only cancels games but greatly diminishes the skill level in the games that do get played. It causes constant challenges for families and college scouts. Wheeler elaborates everything perfectly here…..
