OHSAA Division III: Trotwood Defeats Mansfield 14-7 In Overtime Thriller

CANTON, OH – The Trotwood Rams overcame two touchdowns being called back by holding calls, a scoreless first three quarters and a blocked field goal at the end of regulation, to defeat the Mansfield Tygers 14-7 in an overtime thriller. This win brought them the Division III State championship.

After a scoreless first half saw no one break through, it was Terrance Flickinger of Mansfield busting through to open the second half with a 94-yard burst to pay dirt to break the scoring seal. Flickenberg would rush for 130 yards on 11 carries and rush for the Tygers only points.

They had next to nothing else work today on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Cameron Todd went 3 of 8 passing for 12 yards and an interception. That one pick came on the final play of the game to seal the championship for the Rams.

This game was all about defense and it showed. Even in a victory, the Rams offense only accumulated 268 total yards, but it was more than enough to pull off the win.

The Ram quarterback combination of Cooper Stewart and Keon’Tae Huguely passed for 105 combined yards on 7 of 15 attempts with a touchdown.

The touchdown was caught by Sammy Anderson in overtime to break the 7 all tie as the Rams got the ball first. The pass was right on the money from Huguely to give the Rams their first lead of the game. It may have been their only lead all game, but it was by far the most important one to get!

It came on a crucial 4th and 10 from the 18.  Had they not converted, it would have given the ball back to the Tygers with a chance to win with a field goal.

The Rams had tied the game earlier in the fourth on a Ke’Shawn Huguely touchdown rush from 13 yards out with 8:11 to go. It capped off a 6 play 74-yard drive that took less then two minutes to produce. For Ke’Shaun Huguely, he tallied 52 yards on 12 caries while Keon’Tae picked up 70 yards rushing.

Teams with the mascot of Tigers or Tygers, are now 0-3 this weekend.
