The Pirates had a sluggish start in the first quarter but then found their grove mid-way through the quarter as they outscored the Eagles 15-8 in the first. It was a struggle for the Eagles to get a rhythm going as Brooklyn Beeman scored all of her five points in the opening quarter for North Olmsted.

During the second quarter, it became the Ava Patti show for the Pirates as she was scoring in chunks in the second quarter as she scored 10 of her twelve points in the second quarter. Patti used her size to play to cause problems in the paint for the Eagles as they outscored North Olmsted 20-3 to make it 37-13 at the half.

The offensive woes continued for the Eagles as they were only able to score once in the third quarter as the Pirates turned it up on defense to cause turnovers which they turned up to maintain the lead. “We had a lot of intensity on defense, and we made sure that we were working as a team, getting those offensive rebounds looking to push in transition; it was a good conference win to have on Senior day”, said Rocky River Head Coach Elaine Robinson.

Ava Patti had a big game for the Pirates as she finished with twelve points. “We started off a little flat, but in the second half, we were able to pick up more of our transition buckets, which got us those steals to get those quick layups which definitely got us that lead.” Said Patti. “She’s a force for us on defense, just using her length defensively in our zone, in our man defense, she does some really nice things for us.” Coach Robinson said of Patti’s performance on Senior Night.

And speaking of seniors, the Pirates Kelsey Murphy chipped in with 11 points and sank a three-point bucket in the 4th, which sent the Pirates bench into a frenzy. Pirates win 59-25 bringing their record to 12-4 overall and 7-3 in The Great Lakes Conference.

The Rocky River Pirates face non-conference Hathaway Brown Blazers, who defeated Avon Lake 69-50. The North Olmsted Eagles face non-conference Brookside Cardinals at home.
