Liber Scores 1000th Point As Avon Topps Brunswick

AVON, OH –  Abby Liber would come out of the gates strong as she scored her teams first four points followed by a three from guard Ryann Clapham. Clapham would catch fire early as she would hit three, threes to score nine points in the first quarter.

The Blue Devils would keep fighting back due to fantastic entry passes in the post. The Blue Devils would keep it close but couldn’t hit threes early in the contest making the score 13-8 in favor of the Eagles.

Both teams would trade blows to start the second quarter, with points by number Journey Hildebrand for the Blue Devils and Liber for the Eagles. Avon would try to pull away as they would increase their lead to 11 as Brunswick struggled to get their offense going.

Avon would pull away in the second quarter, this was due to Brunswick struggling to get the ball in the basket. Avon would score from a multitude of players, putting up 31 points in the first half as a team.

This is thanks to Liber’s eight and Clapham’s 11 as these two would be the standout players in the first half for the Eagles. The leader for the Blue Devils would be two of the team’s captains, number 22 Lea Holmes with five points and Hildebrand with eight points.

The second half would start off with both coaches coming out in a zone press to force turnovers. This strategy would work out for coach Anthony Ocacio and his Blue Devils as they would slowly cut into the lead made by the Eagles.

Abby Liber would score four points around the three-minute mark in the third to be one basket away from joining the 1000-point club. She would get this milestone with a three from the wing as the gym erupted to show support for the newest member of the 1000-point club. The game would stop and the crowd held signs as she celebrated with teammates.

Liber would continue to score as she would double her point total from the first half with eight points in the third quarter. Liber wasn’t the only one to have a good quarter, Holmes would match her with eight points in the third quarter to cut the defecate as the score would be 47-32 in favor of the Eagles.

Brunswick cut the Eagles lead down to nine with six minutes left in the game. Brooke Laub for the Eagles would stop the run by the Blue Devils had by hitting a three. This would challenge the Blue Devils as they tried to make up for a bad second quarter.

Teams would trade buckets back and forth as Hildebrand would put up seven points halfway through the quarter as the Blue Devils faced a 10-point deficit with just over two minutes remaining. The Blue Devils would keep on fighting as they would take a chunk out of the Eagles lead as they would bring it within 6 points thanks to a second chance shot by Holmes. She would miss the free throw with over 40 seconds left.

Down by six this would force the Blue Devils to foul and hope the Eagles would miss free throws. This would happen exactly how the Blue Devils would plan but couldn’t hit the three to make it a one possession game. With 15 seconds left the lead remained at six with the ball in the hands of the Eagles. Brunswick would try and foul, the Eagles would drain the clock to four seconds bringing Liber to the line as she will ice the game.

The Eagles will win this contest with a score of 64-56, they would add another win in the column to put the cherry on top to what was a historical night for the Avon Eagles and Abby Liber as she would finish with 21 points. Ryann Clapham had 15 while Brooke Laub had 13 as did Sarai Kittelberger.

Hildebrand would finish with 21 points and Holmes with 18 for the Blue Devils.
