North Olmsted, Ohio – The Eagles received the opening kickoff and quickly moved the ball down the field behind several explosive plays, including a 16-yard reception by Jack Burger and a 19-yard run from Will McPherson. The Eagles advanced into Eastlake North territory but were unable to capitalize, as their 4th down attempt was stopped, resulting in a turnover on downs.

Following the Eagles’ turnover on downs, The Rangers leaned heavily on their running game during their opening possession. The Rangers were fueled by a 27-yard run from King Mattice that moved the ball into Eagles territory, followed by a 12-yard carry that set Eastlake North up in the red zone. An offsides penalty on North Olmsted helped extend the drive, but the Eagles’ defense tightened near the endzone, including a tackle for a 5-yard loss that prevented the Rangers from reaching the end zone. The Rangers ultimately settled for a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead.

As the first quarter came to a close and the second quarter began, North Olmsted turned to its ground game, leaning heavily on sophomore Koen Beasley. However, a false start penalty followed by an illegal procedure call, put the Eagles behind the chains. Eastlake North’s defense then came up with a key play when John Murphy recorded a sack, setting up a 3rd and long situation and an incomplete pass forced North Olmsted to punt the ball away.

The Rangers’ next possession appeared to be heading toward a quick stop, but a costly offsides penalty by North Olmsted on 4th and short gave the Rangers an automatic first down and new life. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Eastlake North leaned on the rushing duo of King Mattice and Kayden Young to methodically move the ball into Eagles territory. Another offsides penalty against North Olmsted helped the Rangers move even closer to the goal line. The drive was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run from Young, and with the extra point, Eastlake North extended its lead to 10-0 with 4:48 remaining in the second quarter.

Eastlake North’s kickoff following the touchdown proved costly, as sophomore Koen Beasley delivered an electrifying response for North Olmsted. Beasley fielded the kick and ran 87 yards to the end zone for a kickoff return touchdown, shifting momentum and cutting the Rangers’ lead to 10-7 late in the second quarter.

Again, Eastlake North initially appeared stalled on its ensuing possession after an illegal procedure penalty set up a 3rd-and-8 situation. However, junior Sae’ion Law came through with a key run to move the chains and keep the drive alive. The Rangers continued to find success on the ground behind Kayden Young and Brycen Palmer, who combined for several strong gains. The drive culminated when Palmer broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run, extending Eastlake North’s lead. Although the extra point attempt was blocked, the Rangers increased their lead to 16-7 late in the second quarter.

Looking to spark the offense before halftime, North Olmsted turned to junior quarterback Cam Massimiani on its next possession. The move paid off quickly, as Massimiani connected with senior Cody Jak for a 34-yard completion that moved the Eagles into Rangers territory. Massimiani then added a first-down run to keep the drive moving. Although North Olmsted was unable to reach the end zone, senior Sebastian Mastroianni converted a 37-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 16-10 heading into halftime.

Mattice eventually finished off the drive with a rushing touchdown, and following the extra point, Eastlake North extended its lead to 23-10 early in the third quarter.

North Olmsted turned back to Will McPherson at quarterback on its next possession and quickly found some momentum. Koen Beasley opened the drive with a 19-yard run to pick up a first down, and later, on third-and-nine, a pass intended for Cody Jak drew a pass interference penalty against Eastlake North, giving the Eagles another first down and moving the ball into Rangers’ territory. Despite the promising drive, North Olmsted was unable to capitalize. Facing a fourth-and-short situation, McPherson was tackled for a loss, resulting in a turnover on downs and ending the Eagles’ scoring threat.

Eastlake North continued to impose its will on the ground during its next possession. Junior Javion Whaley broke loose for a 38-yard run that moved the Rangers deep into North Olmsted territory and into the red zone. After working their way closer to the goal line, Eastlake North faced a fourth-and-short situation. Junior QB Josh Fenick delivered the finishing blow, powering into the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown run. Following the extra point, the Rangers extended their lead to 30-10 with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

A kickoff out of bounds gave North Olmsted favorable field position to begin its next drive, but a false start penalty quickly pushed the Eagles back five yards. North Olmsted once again turned to junior QB Cam Massimiani, and the offense found some rhythm behind Ameer Silmi, who picked up a first down on the ground. A holding penalty then backed the Eagles up 10 yards, but Silmi responded with another strong run that moved North Olmsted into Rangers territory. However, the momentum shifted abruptly when Eastlake North’s Brand Bambrick stepped in front of a pass and returned the pick 65 yards for a touchdown. The pick-six extended the Rangers’ lead to 37-10 and put Eastlake North firmly in control of the game to take the game into the 4th Quarter.

It was looking like North Olmsted would be unable to sustain another strong drive on their possession and eventually faced a fourth-and-short situation. Looking for a spark, junior Ameer Silmi broke through for a 56-yard touchdown. The explosive run provided a boost for the Eagles and cut Eastlake North’s lead to 37-17.

Eastlake North recovered the onside kick and initially appeared headed for a quick three-and-out. However, a roughing the punter penalty against North Olmsted on 4th down kept the drive alive, giving the Rangers an automatic first down and moving the ball into Eagles territory. Capitalizing on the second chance, Eastlake North leaned heavily on King Mattice, who churned out several key runs to push the Rangers deep into the red zone. The drive belonged to Mattice from start to finish, as he capped it off with another rushing touchdown. Following the extra point, Eastlake North extended its lead to 44-17 and put the game further out of reach.

North Olmsted’s next possession showed promise as Cam Massimiani connected with Desean Knight on a pair of impressive completions, helping the Eagles move the ball down the field. However, any momentum the drive had built was quickly erased by Eastlake North senior Brand Bambrick. After recording a pick-six earlier in the game, Bambrick struck again, intercepting another pass and returning it for a touchdown.
