Crestwood shuts out Hawken, 30-0, clinches CVC Valley Title

The Crestwood Red Devils defeated host Hawken, 30-0, on Saturday morning to clinch the CVC Valley Division title.

It was a cold and rainy start to the morning, but it didn’t take long for the Crestwood offense to get in gear.

Two plays into the Red Devils’ opening drive, running back Louie Blasiole put Crestwood on top with a 44-yard rushing touchdown. The point after was good, making the score 7-0.

Freshman Nate Blasiole, Louie’s younger brother, recovered a fumble, setting Crestwood up in prime position for more.

Despite getting to the Hawken 4, the Hawks defense was able to turn Crestwood away. The score remained 7-0 at the end of the first.

Later in the second quarter, Hawken came up with another big stop. After Crestwood got to the red zone, the Hawks defense stepped up to force another turnover on downs.

The Crestwood defense would respond in a big way, though.

After a holding penalty pushed Hawken inside their own ten yard line, defensive end Ethan Strahan came up with a sack for a safety. This made the score 9-0 in favor of Crestwood with 5:36 left in the second.

Blasiole would find the end zone once again, this time on a three yard run. This was set up when quarterback Evan Daniels found brother Mason for a long gainer.

After another stop, Louie Blasiole punched it in again from two yards out, making the score 23-0 at the half.

Crestwood would get the ball to start the second half, and immediately drove down the field. Evan Daniels found Aidan Gutglueck for a 31-yard touchdown reception to increase the score to 30-0 and trigger the running clock.

In the fourth quarter, Hawken drove down the field and got inside the ten yard line, but Crestwood turned the Hawks away.

The Red Devils would put a cap on things later when senior defensive end Jake Rowe picked off a pass.

Senior running back Louie Blasiole had 24 carries for 166 yards and three scores. Senior Evan Daniels went 7 of 12 passing for 199 yards and a score.

The Crestwood Red Devils finished the season at 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the CVC (Valley Division). They are slotted #7 in Division V, Region 17, according to JoeEitel.com, and are set to host Berkshire next Friday night when playoff matchups are set.

Hawken finishes their regular season at 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the CVC (Valley Division). They are slotted #15 in Division IV, Region 13, according to JoeEitel.com. Hawken is guaranteed to go on the road next Friday, but their opponent is still to be determined.
