WWE WrestleMania Top Five: Women’s Matches

With the show of shows less then two weeks away, it was announced earlier today that the main event will be an all-women’s match for the first time ever.

This is truly historic and when Ronda Rousey defends her RAW Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch and Charlotte, history will no doubt be made in epic fashion.

This has us harkening back to some of the greatest women’s matches in WrestleMania history, as that is the subject of today’s edition of “WrestleMania Top Five”.

  1. Asuka vs Charlotte for the Smackdown Women’s Title at WrestleMania 34

You can call me a prisoner of the moment if you will, but this was the greatest women’s match of all time. Not just at a WrestleMania, but of all time.  It was the best match on the card, and the best match of 2018.

The WWE screwed things up by not having the rematch this year.  They should have had Asuka not lose again since that night, and set up one more challenge against the Queen on the grandest stage of them all.  I for one, would have not complained.

2. Charlotte vs Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks for the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 32

Again, this was easily the best match on what turned out to be a boring show. It is hard to imagine that Becky Lynch was actually a “throw in” for this match.  My how things have changed since 2016.  That being said, there was no denying these three women tore down the house in what was the inaugural match for the “Women’s Championship”.

3. Chyna vs Ivory for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania X7

It was the greatest WrestleMania of all time, and the greatest women’s competitor of all time made it look easy against Ivory in a squash match. This would be the final time the WWE Universe got to enjoy Chyna at her best before a series of demons took over and ruined her career and eventualy took her life.

4. Mickie James vs Trish Stratus for the Diva’s Championship at WrestleMania XXII

The red hot Chicago crowd was all over this one, as it was another great match on a very solid show. Mickie James taking the title and getting cheered was a twist few saw coming, and opened the door for her.  Stratus, who was known as a selfish worker, took the pin clean and did the right thing for the business that made her.

5. Wendi Ritcher vs Leilani Kai for the WWF Women’s Championship

Because there is nothing like your first time right? The first ever women’s match at the inaugural WrestleMania may have not been a mat classic, but it was a spectacle.  The presence of Cindy Lauper and The Fabulous Moolah made it even that much more special! A true staple, of the “Rock “n” Wrestling” Connection.
