WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Continues to Underwhelm With Another Terrible Outing

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event was held at MSG tonight in front of a very pro heavy New Knicks crowd.  It seemed at times as though the WWE spent too much time catering to Knick fans while putting on a rather lackluster and highly predictable show.  As is normally the case, this set up the next big PLE which is SummerSlam in early August.

Here is what happened on the show and how we felt about it.

Fatal Influence defeats Brie Bella and Paige to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Paige and Bella never made much sense as champions to begin with and it will only be a matter of time before Paige is back out of the ring for good and doing pre-show segments.  She held down the fort long enough for some cheap pops and Nikki Bella to heal her ankle.  I wouldn’t expect much ring time for Paige moving forward.

JD McDonagh loses to Danhausen with help from Karl Anthony Towns.

A cheap plug yet again for Knicks fans ruined what was otherwise a pretty great match.  Not much of a future in this feud and seems like a general waste of time for The Judgement Day.

Lyra Valkyria puts Bayley and the crowd to sleep

This was a fight, not a match and we all know how fights come across when you put them in a scripted television show.  The win for Valkyria proves just how deep the WWE is invested in her heel push and the chances that Bayley is actually leaving when her contract is up seem more real than ever.

CM Punk & Cody Rhodes defeat Gunther and Sami Zayn

In perhaps the least shocking result of the night, the main event for Night One of WWE SummerSlam is now confirmed to be a 1 vs 1.  Gunther will take on the returning Nick Aldis while Sami Zayn is left floating out there once again.

The closing segment saw Tyrese Haliburton join Seth Rollins to interrupt an in ring promo with Jalen Brunson and Roman Reigns.  Again, this is was incredibly tacky and pretty much confirmed all of this could have been a house show or at the most, a special RAW.

WWE Saturday Nights Main Event continues to be awful since its return in 2024.  What a shame!
