The Pro Wrestling World was shocked earlier today as Sami Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes and Gunther at Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. It capped off an amazing run that Zayn has been on in 2026 as his character has ascended into darkness and been a big hit with the fans as a snarky heel that they love to hate.
He came in dressed in full Saudi Arabia Muslim garb and the fans soaked it up! The match itself was fantastic and will now open up several questions heading into RAW and Smackdown. The smart money was on a Jey Uso vs Cody Rhodes match at WWE Summer Slam and an Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar trilogy and now none of that will happen, or at least it doesn’t appear that way.
So, the question now becomes who does the 2026 WWE Men’s King of the Ring Oba Femi challenge for his World Championship shot at Slam? Roman or Sami? Roman would be the must see match for sure, it leaves the door wide open for a Cody Rhodes vs Sami Zayn rematch and also a possible Brock Lesnar vs Gunther retirement match. How they get there, is beyond me however.
Also on the Night of Champions card today, we saw Iyo Sky win the 2026 WWE Women’s Queen of the Ring over Liv Morgan who she promptly challenged for her title at Summer Slam. Retaining her championship today was Tiffany Stratton over Jade Cargill with help from Chelsea Green and Charlotte while Seth Rollins won the blowoff cage match versus Bron Breakker.
