Hudson uses Lal to Lull Solon to Sleep in 49-35 Victory!

Hudson uses Lal to lull the Comets to sleep!

Hudson wins 49 to 35

1st quarter

The Game started off with the Solon Comets receiving the ball at their own 20-yard line. They quickly received the game’s first 1st down behind a four-yard run by running back EJ Taylor, but unfortunately after another three plays they were forced to punt the ball after not being able to convert another first down.

The Explorers started their first drive with a hand off to their running back Aiden Lal, which was just a preview to of what was to come from this game.

Lal first two runs generated two first downs for Hudson and after a series of hands offs, the Explorers were able to gallantly move the ball up the field; but they unfortunately turned over the ball on down. After forcing the Comets to punt on their second series, Hudson scored the first touchdown of the game behind a 63-yard run by running back Aiden Lal. Hudson 7 Solon 0.

With 3 minutes left in the first quarter, the Comets decided to use their own big back, EJ Taylor, to move up the field to answer Hudson’s score with a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Charlie Bubonics to wideout Zach Nathanson.  Hudson 7 Solon 7.

2nd quarter

The common theme of this game was the fact that both teams have amazing runners in their back field, and they planned on using them to will a victory tonight. Solon’s defense was able to stand their ground and force an Explorers’ punt, which allowed them to get the ball back and mix up their drive with passes and runs. With a masterful drive using their quarterback’s arm and their running back’s legs, the Comets scored on a 38-yard run by EJ Taylor.

Solon 14 Hudson 7. Not looking to be out done, Hudson uses their own mixture of plays and scored their second touchdown on a Lal 4-yard run at the 4:43 mark in the first half. Solon 14 Hudson 14. The Explorers stand tall with their defense and force the Comets to punt the ball back to them. Even though they started their drive at their own 4-yard line, Hudson confidently ran off a couple of successful plays, ending with a grand 73-yard pass from quarterback Jagger Pallay to Colin Pierce that resulted in a touchdown right before the end of the 1st half. Hudson 21 Solon 14.

3rd quarter

The second half starts with Hudson receiving the ball at their own 19-yard line. The Explorers went back to their game plan, which was pound the ball with Lal and use some deep passes to move the ball up the field. With the ball on the 8-yard line, Hudson’s quarterback tossed the ball to Lal, who rumbled up the right sideline for his third touchdown of the night. Hudson 28 Solon 14. Down by two touchdowns, Solon’s EJ Taylor received the ball on consecutive plays, that resulted in multiple 1st down runs.

After finding success on the ground, the Comets unfortunately stalled in their drive and turned the ball over on down. Hudson, trying to put this game away for good, made their only error in the game by throwing an interception which was picked off by Solon’s Markell Green and returned to the Explorers’ 15-yard line. Solon, now having some new life breathe into them by the defense, was able to capitalize on the turnover with a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Andrew Mulvaney to EJ Taylor. Hudson 28 Solon 20.

Hudson realized that this game was far from over and did not wanting to give the momentum over to the Comets, used only two plays to score their own touchdown with a 56-yard carry by Aiden Lal. Hudson 35 Solon 20.

 

4th quarter

Solon started the fourth quarter with a profound sense of urgency and was trying to make something happen offensively, but unfortunately for the Comets they were plagued with multiple penalties that had them pushed back to their own 4-yard line and ended with them turning the ball over via an interception.

Looking to put the nail in the Solon coffin, Hudson went back to handing the ball off to running back Lal, which resulted in him scoring from 28 yards and getting his fourth touchdown of the game. Hudson 42 Solon 20. With 8:45 left in the game and victory closely in the hands of the Explorers, Solon turned the ball over on downs on their own 38-yard line. Hudson trying to close out a hard-fought game, used a running sweep by Ryan Evans, to add to their lead and score on one play.

Hudson 49 Solon 20. Solon was desperate not to give up and at the 5:58 mark they scored on a 23-yard EJ Taylor touchdown run. Hudson 49 Solon 27. The Explorers stalled on their next possession and punted the ball back to Solon to near mid field.

The Comets used this exceptional field position to put the ball back into the endzone with good passes and a 3-yard EJ Taylor touchdown run, this drive also included a 2-point conversion pass to Joel Kpassou. Hudson 49 Solon 35. With 1:26 left in the game, Hudson recovered the onside kick and went into victory formation for the win. End of Game Hudson 49 Solon 35.
