What’s Next for the Cavs? Should the King Come Home Again?

The 2025-2026 Cavaliers flamed out in the 2026 postseason, getting swept by the eventual champion New York Knicks after two grueling 7-game series. Hopes were high heading into the new season after their historic 2024-25 season, where they were arguably a top 5 team in the association. Following the blockbuster trade swapping Garland for Harden as well as adding some key pieces in Keon Ellis and Dennis Schröder, the Cavs caught fire with a 5 game win streak. After sitting just above .500 all season, this truly looked to be the missing piece, and the team was firing on all cylinders, finishing the season with a record of 21-9.  As we know, the Cavs ended up falling short in their first conference finals appearance since the LeBron era. Back to the drawing board-what’s next?

The most obvious option seems to be signing LeBron. A true storybook ending for the King would be ending his career in his hometown of Cleveland, to where he brought the most valuable championship in NBA history. Signing LeBron would fill the hole at the small forward spot. Assuming they make no big moves, the potential starting 5 of The Beard, Spida, the King, the Unicorn, and the ‘Fro is a recipe for success. You could even bring Harden off the bench as a 6th man, move Bron to the 1, and start Strus at the 3. The possibilities are endless with a player like LeBron on your team! As long as he doesn’t go “LeGM Mode” and trade half the team away, I see no reason for him not to choose Cleveland!
