North Olmsted, OH-

The Westlake Demons boys basketball team came into the friendly confines of the North Olmsted High School and stole a victory from the home team.

The Eagles led this game for 30 of the 32 minutes in the game but the final score shows a great victory for the Demons.

The Eagles came out quickly in the first quarter with dominance on the glass and were able to get easy baskets from their suffocating defense. Junior Eggie Cordero was looking for his shot all night because the Demons did a great job of shutting down Eagles leading scorer Miles Ciulla all night. Cordero ended the first quarter with 7 points with all points coming off drives to the basket that the Demons were not able to stop. The score at the end of the first quarter was Eagles 21 Demons 11.

The second quarter saw the first signs of life from the Demons who were led in the quarter by forward Derek Occhipinti who had 7 points in the quarter. The Demons were able to use the pick and roll play numerous times to perfection with Occhipinti and guard Will Ostrowski. The Eagles were able to stifle Ostrowski for a majority of the night which caused him to be a facilitator instead of a scorer. The score at halftime was Eagles 31 Demons 27.

The Eagles were able to extend their lead in the third quarter with a balanced attack with 7 players scoring in the quarter. Eagle guard Naoki Soto was a calm presence throughout the quarter by scoring 4 points but dishing out 6 assists in the quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was Eagles 45 Demons 37.

The final quarter of the game was the coming out party for Demon Freshmen guard Ryan Turk. Turk played two quarters in the JV game but he was at his best when the spotlight of the last quarter was on him. Turk finished the quarter with 11 points which included 3 big three point baskets that were daggers to the winning attempts of the Eagles. The Demons were able to make all of their free throws down the stretch to secure a victory 59-56.

My player of the game was Demon Freshmen guard Turk. He finished with 14 points and was 4 for 5 from the 3 point line and dished out 4 assists.
