Kee On Sports photographer and owner of Wayne County Sports, Ben Nichols made history today by stepping foot on Point Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost point of the United States and became the first photographer from Ohio, the third person in documented Wayne County history to reach the point, and the first active Ashland University student to do so. It was a 10 mile 12 hour track in horrendous winter conditions in sub zero temperatures. Few have ever tried it, let alone lived to talk about it.
More people have been to Antarctica and Mount Everest Base Camp than Point Barrow. Nichols is one of the few people in history to ever visit Point Barrow. He was challenged to do so about a year ago when he met a Native American named Storm Eagle who gave him the inspiration to do so.
Nichol’s had this to say about his journey, “My grandparents worked hard their entire lives and set the standard for me. Watching them earn everything they had is what drives me to pursue the same kind of life.”
Thank you, God. Thank you to my team.
I’m heading home.
Nichol’s has photo’d everything from MLB to BIG 10 Athletics and looks to continue that trend this spring into summer. Nichols is a star student at Ashland University and the of the brightest young photographers in Ohio along with the nation. Great job Ben!
