Wadsworth defeats Twinsburg, 4-2, clinches share of Suburban National

Twinsburg, Ohio – Junior pitcher Skyler Kries threw a complete game Saturday afternoon to help Wadsworth defeat Twinsburg, 4-2, to clinch a share of the Suburban League National Division championship.

Matt Thompson hit an RBI single to left to put Wadsworth ahead, 1-0. Kyle Figuray and Skyler Kries added a couple of their own to increase the lead to 3-0.

Wadsworth would add another run to go up 4-0 before Twinsburg got on the board.

Sophomore Kyan Barnes and junior Gavin McCoy hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Kries induced a double play grounder to the next batter to end the threat.

Twinsburg put the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but Skyler Kries got out of the jam.

Wadsworth’s win Saturday catapulted them into a four-way tie with North Royalton, Brecksville, and Hudson for the Suburban National Division crown.

The Grizzlies move up to 15-8 overall and finish conference play at 10-4. They host Tallmadge Monday afternoon for their Senior Night.

In a losing effort, Twinsburg sophomore pitcher Jeremy Suppel threw six innings.

The Tigers drop to 10-12 overall and 4-8 in conference play. They travel to Solon Tuesday, May 18th to open up postseason play.
