Vero Beach’s defense smothered Pahokee all night, and the offense did just enough to turn that dominance into a 22-7 win.
Pahokee punted on their opening drive, and Vero Beach wasted no time cashing in. A direct snap to Jayden Lockhart went 1 yard for the score to make it 7-0. The teams traded punts for a stretch before Vero Beach pulled off a fake punt with Makai White throwing a crossbody pass to Marc Johns that went the distance for a 37-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
From there, the game turned into a defensive clinic. Pahokee punted on all 6 drives in the first half, managing just one first down and 25 total yards while going 0-for-8 on third down.
Vero Beach opened the second half the same way they played the first, with Lockhart ripping off a 14-yard touchdown run. A QB sneak on the two-point try made it 22-0. Pahokee finally got on the board when Corian Davis jumped a screen pass and took it 18 yards the other way for a pick six, cutting the deficit to 22-7. It was too little too late, though, as Vero Beach’s defense took over from there, forcing a string of turnovers on downs and punts to close out the win.
Player of the Game: Jayden Lockhart, RB, Vero Beach
Jayden Lockhart was the one constant for Vero Beach all night. He had 14 carries for 63 yards, and both of his touchdowns came at key moments. A 1-yard score to open the scoring and a 14-yard burst to start the second half that pushed the lead to 22-0. With Pahokee unable to get anything going on offense, Lockhart’s steady pounding on the ground kept the clock moving and the pressure off Vero Beach’s defense, which held Pahokee to almost nothing for most of the game.
