It was a steady diet of rushing that led the Eagles on their opening drive before the Eagles went to their bread-and-butter play, a wheel route to score. This time it was Lucas to Ronnie Neal from 22 yards out as North had no answers for the Eagle attack to start the game with a 7 play,76-yard drive to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Eagles scored again the next time they touched the ball. This time it was on a two yard screen pass that Caleb Hall took 69 yards to the house as he floored it down the sidelines. It was track speed for Hall as no one could catch him, bumping the lead to 14-0 with 5:45 o play in the opening quarter.
North was aided by an Eagle personal foul to jumpstart their next drive. A few nice runs by Mansfield moved into the redzone quickly. It was all for not however as the Eagle defense stood tall with a massive goal line stop to start the second quarter, keeping the lead 14-0 as the center of the Eagle defense refused to budge.
A Ronnie Neal 30-yard rumble through the heart of the North defense sparked the next Eagle drive. A few plays later, the Eagles stuck to the run when Joe Moore took it in for a 18-yard touchdown. The big tight end continues to be a threat out of the backfield as this was his third touchdown rush of the season. This score made it 21-2 for the Eagles with 7 minutes even to play in the second quarter.
North began to climb back in it with a 9 yard touchdown pass to Wade, cutting the lead to 21-10 with 2:06 to play in the first half. The same play was ran on the touchdown as the two point conversion, an inside slant that the Eagles did not have covered. Just like that, North was back in the game towards the tail end of the first half.
The Eagles pulled themselves off the mat quickly when Caleb Hall took the ensuing kickoff 99 yards to score. Once again, it was the wheels of Hall that made it happen as North had no answers for his speed. This pushed the lead back out to 18 as the Eagles now led 28-10 with 1:52 left to play in the half.
Bailey used his legs on the next North attack as he cut through a hole in the middle of the Eagle defense to score. This time it was a 13-yard run by Bailey to score. This followed a 40-yard strike to Wade to help them set up shop. This made it a tighter halftime score of 28-18 with the Eagles on top.
North used some more penalties on the Eagles combined with slant passes to move it quickly on the Eagles to start the second half. The scoring payoff coming on a 21-yard touchdown strike from Bailey to Tabora. The drive took 4:32 off the clock and cut the Eagle lead to 28-25.
The Eagles wasted no time going back to doing what they do best, and that is running the ball with their quarterback Langston Lucas. Once again North had zero answers and it was only a matter of time before Lucas danced in to extend the lead to 35-25 with 3:56 left to play in the third quarter.
A Landon Lehmer punt return allowed the Eagles to start their next drive at the North 43-yard line. Once again, this allowed the Eagles to do what they do best, run the ball with Lucas who took one 35 yards to the house on just the second play of the drive to score. This increased the Eagle lead to 42-25 with 1:26 left to play.
Before anyone could blink however, a 73-yard bomb to Tabora hit as Bailey launched it over his shoulders to drop it in. This huge strike by North tightened it back up to 42-32 as both teams combined for 74 points with 1:08 still left to play in the third quarter.
The Eagles had no reason to switch anything the next time they touched the ball and didn’t. Yet again, Langston Lucas took over with his feet. The scoring play for him came on a 15 yard scamper from Lucas to increase the lead back out to 49-32 as both teams just continued to trade punches.
