Rocky River – Rocky River Pirate goaltender Niko Price put on a defensive clinic tonight that helped Rocky River earn the 3-0 victory over team Ohio. It was Price saving all 9 shots on the night to keep Team Ohio at bay. Meanwhile, Grayson Hess remained red hot and continued his outstanding tournament with 2 more goals in the win.
After a scoreless first period and mostly a scoreless second, it was Senior Grayson Hess breaking the ice with a powerful shot that found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Pirates with 1:06 left in the second period. The score would remain 1-0 as both goaltenders dominated control of the net for the remainder of the period.
The Pirates sensed a need for urgency to extend the lead and put Team Ohio away as they came out in third period like a house on fire, blazing with aggression. Jackson Herrman got it going early with a goal to make it 2-0. From there, the Pirates obtained the man advantage on a power play. They cashed it in quickly when Grayson Hess scored his second goal of the night to put things out of reach at 3-0. The game would remain 3-0 the rest of the way.
The Rocky River Pirates came into the contest with tournament wins over the Cleveland Wildcats and also Wooster. This game moved them to 3-0 on the weekend as they head into the big matchup tomorrow 10:15 am with the Avon Eagles. Meanwhile Team Ohio will look to get their first win of the tournament tomorrow at 4:15 against the Cleveland Wildcats.
A special mention in this contest to Team Ohio goaltender AJ Jagels who saved 33 of 36 shots on the night. Jagels did everything he could to keep Team Ohio in it throughout the night.
