by After a chaotic season of The Bachelorette, ABC returned to their bread and butter with their original concept last evening with The Bachelor. They appear to have the right man for the job in Matt James. In case you didn’t already know, ABC spent 25 plus minutes telling you and showing you how great he was to start the show.
He appears to open, honest, and truly genuine with how he feels about everything coming into this experience. It should make for compelling television and give the fans someone to root for, instead of rooting against such as they did with Clare Crawley. On a personal note, I really appreciated the fact that he started things off with a prayer, something I hold near and dear to my own heart.
As any good sports journalist would, I ranked my Top 10 from last night. I actually made this list after he met all of them, before the first impression rose, and also the rose ceremony. To my shock, all 10 are still standing after round one.
Here is a quick breakdown of each one and why I see them sticking around for a while. As I always say, time will tell. These are based strictly on first impressions and listed in the order of arrival, not who is best to worst.

Sarah – A broadcast journalist who moved home to be with her father who is dying. She grabbed my attention right away because of the journalism aspect and the fact that she appears to have a heart and her values in the right place as well.
Chelsea – She pissed me off right away. Matt James makes a big speech and scene about seeing past color and how color doesn’t matter. He makes it crystal clear that he is out to find love and color won’t play a role.
What is the first thing she does when she roles up out of the limo, makes mention that they are both black and he needs to do the right thing. She will stick around solely on the fact that her mouth will lead to racial tension and drama.
Mari – Stunning dress, incredible walk up the stairs that left him speechless. He was smitten.
Anna – While I’m not real sure about the whole “caffeine” angle, I did love the fact that she brought a care package with her for him. I thought that was really sweet and he will need the stress ball and I thought the Red Flags were great!
Kaili – It was incredibly sexy and bold showing up in her bra and panties. That caught my attention and I’m sure the attention of every red-blooded American male who happened to be in the room when that scene came on their wives or girlfriend’s television.
The debt collector and realist in me couldn’t help but wonder, “how can a hostess afford two extremely expensive gowns to choose from?” That is in no offense to any hostess out there, but the two things just didn’t mesh. Again, she would have gotten the first impression rose from me just for having the guts to do that, and look incredible while she did.
Abigail – What a cutie pie! The fact that she is partially deaf doesn’t mean a thing to me. Each year there is one or two contestants that instantly grab your heart, she was one of those. Also, Matt James must have agreed after she gave him a little smooch, because he then gave her the first impression rose while they were still alone.
Katie – Finally a real moment on a reality show. Listen, if you have done any actual deep research into the behind the scenes works of the show, 80% of the women have admitted to bringing a sex toy with them and the other 20% are lying. At least she was out in the open with it, and made everyone laugh. As long as it doesn’t become a running joke that is driven into the ground, then I’m fine with it. Bold move and it paid off.
MJ – She is a local girl from Hudson, Ohio and brought a pizza with her! What is not to love?
Kit – Another cutie pie who doesn’t appear to have an ego and should do well. I see her going very far. Her rolling up in the fancy car was a nice touch, I mean, what are the chances she ever gets that opportunity again, I don’t blame her.
Victoria – The Queen needs to go ASAP! However, the producers get a pick each week to keep drama and ratings up. Each year needs a few villains, she will be the early one out of the gate. I still don’t see her going very far however.
