SUPER TUESDAY: Relentless Rocky River Defeats Strongsville to Advance

The Rocky River Pirates defeated Strongsville Mustangs 45-37 to advance to the district championship game this Friday night versus “across the street” rival Magnificat.

The first quarter of the game was a back and forth affair as both teams tried to feel each other out and figure out what was going to work best to come out victorious. The Pirates were led by forward Ava Patti who was able to tally 5 points in the first quarter. The Mustangs were led by forward Sydney Bass who made two 3 point baskets to have 6 points in the quarter. Strongsville was able to take a slim lead at the end of the first quarter 10-8.

The second quarter was another back and forth scenario with both teams making amazing defensive plays and few baskets being scored. The Pirates 1-3-1 zone gave the Mustangs fits all night and the Pirates were never able to solve the Mustangs matchup zone. The score going into the half was Pirates 19 Mustangs 18. The leading scorers in the first half were Ava Patti for the Pirates with 10 points and Sydney Bass scored 8 points in the first half for the Mustangs.

The second half should have been called the Annika Mocho show. She led the Pirates in scoring with 11 points and 5 assists. Annika was clutch down the stretch making 6 of 7 free throw attempts to keep the Mustangs at bay.

Rocky River moves on to play their cross town rival Magnificat on Friday night for the district title

Strongsville ends their season at 10-13
