North Olmsted topples Valley Forge in narrow round one matchup

The North Olmsted Eagles overcame the Valley Forge Patriots during the first round of the OHSAA playoffs Friday night.

North Olmsted’s running back Jared Kelley took the handoff early in the game to pay dirt with a 57-yard touchdown. 

Quarterback Xavier Balson found wide receiver Collin Willard minutes later for a 39-yard touchdown to up the score.

The Patriots found the board in the second quarter when running back Ben Farson found the end zone from 11-yards out. The Eagles were quick to respond and running back Matthew Chalkwater cleared the field with a 45-yard touchdown.

The Eagles led 21-7 at the end of the half.

Patriot running back Elijah Williams scored a 6-yard touchdown, and the missed extra point cut the score 21-13. The Eagles upped their lead after Chalkwater completed a 26-yard run on a 4th and 3 play.

The Patriots continued to fight in the fourth quarter, and quarterback Dan Kiewel called his own number from 11-yards out to put the game within eight. Each team docked two more touchdowns as the clock wind down, 

The Eagles came out on top 42-34 and will travel to play Medina Highland next Friday.

The Player of the Game is Eagles RB Matthew Chalkwater with 12 carries for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns.

  1. What a fantastic game! A monumental win for these boys and this program. These are some great young men. Congrats to the coaches. All your hard work helped make the difference.
