Midview Middies Bend But Don’t Break Against Elyria Pioneers

The Midview Middies had to fend off a ferocious comeback from the Elyria Pioneers tonight (October 13). With just seven minutes remaining, and the lead at just a touchdown and PAT, the defense was able to hold. Midview sent the fans home happy, 35-28 on senior night.

It did not appear that this would be a down-to-the-wire affair, though. Ethan Elbert was solid as can be in the first quarter. He scampered into the endzone to get things going. Then, right before the end of the first 12 minutes, he would locate his target, Dane West. Dane was spectacular tonight. He would haul in a 38-yard pass to put the Middies in front, 14-0 at the end of the quarter.

The Midview defense continued to let nothing fly from the visiting Pioneers. That dominance continued on the other side of the ball once again with the dynamic duo of Elbert and West. This time it was a 31-yard connection. However, Elyria was able to find a little crack in the defense. Kevin Jordan would punch it in near the goal line trimming the lead to 14. But, Elbert’s unconscious play led him to find Dior Jones for a 45-yard touchdown.

However, the majority of the second half was all Pioneers. They were not going down without getting into a dogfight. Kevin Jordan once again found his way across paydirt. Moments later a 37-yard score from Laron Anderson-Oliver trimmed it to 28-21. Midview was finally able to stop bleeding with just under 3 minutes to go in the third quarter. Midview would come back with a touchdown from Hunter Anderson who took it in from 7 yards out.

Elyria’s fight was something incredible to see. They landed another big body blow with Kevin Jordan adding his third score score. With Midview getting tighter, who was going to step up with just eight minutes remaining? The answer was the defense that was so stout for the entire first half. After Elbert and the offense could not muster up any more points, the 11 personnel on the opposite side of the ball were able to finish it off. Elyria had their chance with around two minutes left. However, it was just too little too late.

Player Of The Game:

Dane West 128 YDS 2 TD
