Lakewood, Ohio – Thanks to a big day on offense, the Lakewood Rangers moved to 20-0 on the year with a 30-2 win over the Bay Rockets Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers got things started in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs. Senior Drew Jones had an RBI single, and junior Riley Verderber followed with an RBI double to score Jones. Verderber stole home on a successful double steal.
In the second inning, Lakewood scored five more runs to pad their lead to 8-0. Three of them came off the bat of Drew Jones, who launched the Rangers’ first home run of the game. Lewis Frantz and Tyler Laidley added RBI singles of their own for the Rangers.
Bay would get on the board in the top of the third inning following a two-out RBI single by Trever Ormsby.
Lakewood had a huge bottom of the third inning, plating 19 runs. Sixteen of those runs came off grand slams by senior Luke Legato and Cooper Russell.
Bay would add another run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI groundout, and Lakewood added three more for the final margin.
Bowling Green commit Drew Jones hit for the cycle, knocking in five runs and scoring eight. Brown commit Cooper Russell knocked in eight runs and scored five. Marietta commit Nick Hart pitched three innings, striking out three batters and going 3-3 at the plate.
Tyler Laidley, Lewis Frantz, Finn Schroeder, and Robby Koopman each contributed multiple RBIs for the Rangers.
