by The North Olmsted Eagles and Lakewood Rangers varsity girls’ soccer teams faced off as they tried to improve their season records so far. Starting the game off, Lauren Becker from North Olmsted was awarded a corner kick. She put it right in front of the goal, but Eagles teammates missed the shot. The Rangers played great defense within the first 20 minutes, as the Eagles made it close to the net multiple times but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The first goal of the night was scored by Luella Darr from Lakewood. She had an open shot from the 10-yard line. As the Eagles tried to catch up and make their first score of the night, Darr came back in with an outstanding defensive play to steal the ball back. The Eagles tried again and made the goal; however, it could not be counted due to offsides being called on the Eagles. This made the half time score 1-0 Lakewood Rangers.
Starting off the second half, Becker went for the shot and missed. She saved herself by assisting Khunnita Chamroeun in the Eagles first goal of the game! Another corner kick was awarded to Becker, as right after both teams “wrestled” for the ball in front of the Eagles net, shots were attempted by multiple players, but no goal was made.
Eagle fans thought Lauren Becker came through as she made a goal for the Eagles. However, both teams assumed this was a goal, as it appeared to slip right through the net. Referees looked for a hole in the net but could not find one. They decided to not count it for the Eagles. Chamroeun received the first yellow card of the night, 15 minutes into the second half for misconduct on the field.
Just under 20 yards, a foul shot was attempted by Becker and led to another corner shot with less than two minutes left in the game. Molitha Chamroeun tried for a shot and missed the goal.
This was an intense game that led to a tie, 1-1.
