CHAGRIN FALLS, OH𑁋 Kenston’s dynamic offense got back on track in a big way on Friday against visiting Madison. The Bombers did almost all of their damage in the first half, posting 267 yards on only 18 plays. All three units were in sync leading to a wire-to-wire victory, 42-6.

A team that has had its ups and downs on defense this season put the clamps on Madison. The Blue Streaks could only muster a mere 87 yards on 37 play calls in the first 24 minutes. They also had two blocked punts and a point after attempt deflected.

Besides special teams struggling, the offense was not much better, losing three fumbles, including an interception in the fourth quarter. Overall, Kenston had their eyes on getting back in the win column after a tough defeat to Chardon last week.

This contest was effectively over after the first half. Madison possessed the football first but if you blinked you would have assumed Kenston started with it first. The Blue Streak offense went to the run game on the first play which ended in disaster. The handoff went right through the ball carrier’s hands and Jeremy Hajdu recovered the fumble to give it back to the Bombers.

With just 19 seconds elapsing off the clock Kenston found the endzone on their first play from scrimmage. A 32-yard bomb from senior Nikko Georgiou to sophmore speedster Tymir Cardona would be the first of five touchdowns in half number one.

The offensive line gave Georgiou all day to throw all night long. They were a true unsung reason as to why the offense was clicking so well.

Madison was able to move the ball past the 50 on the ensuing drive but it would be thwarted by a third down tipped pass by David Clossin.

Another key cog in the system for the Bomber’s offensive game plan is junior tail back Sean Patrick. He only stands at 5’9 and weighs in at a lean 185 pounds but he takes full advantage of his stature.

He punched it in at the goal line with 2:48 in the first quarter. A Georgiou completion to Jimmy Richmond for 38 yards set up the score.

Besides some overlooked power in goal line sets, where Patrick really shines is getting to the outside and allowing his speed and agility to take care of business. Using terrific vision and quick feet, Patrick received the handoff on the Blue Streak’s nine.

Patrick cut back to the right side of the field behind the line of scrimmage to leave him just one defender guarding the goal line. A sudden juke got him free from the defense to give Kenston a 21-0 lead.

Leading up to that were some more spectacular plays from Georgiou’s legs and arm. First, he sprinted up the gut and into the upper levels of the defense for 37 yards. Then he flipped it over to Cardona for 24 yards.

The first of the two blocked punts came in the second quarter, courtesy of Ashton Kolencic. He also recovered it at the Blue Streak 21 yard line which would be followed by another touchdown for Patrick.

His third of the half was a receiving score off a quick nine yard pitch.

After another empty possession for Madison, Patrick would score off one of the most electric runs of the year. On the second play of the drive and the ball on their own 38, Patrick’s number was called.

It was another outside run but this one displayed his elusiveness in full flux. With Madison’s defense all around him near the sideline it seemed to be a sure thing that he would be tackled. Somehow, like David Blaine, he pulled a disappearing act.

First, he juked a couple of would-be tacklers, then he spun out of the clutches of one more, leaving him with no one near him for the last 15 yards or so to cross the pylon. 6:55 still remained in the first half alone and at this rate it felt as if Kenston could post 60.

Unfortunately, it was just a tough night for a young Madison team with only two starting seniors and loads of sophomores. The Blue Streaks managed to cross midfield two more times for the remainder of the contest.

They ran into a buzzsaw that has high expectations of another deep playoff run. Kenston went on to win two games in last year’s playoffs and with most of the same group. They hope to stir up some more noise this winter.

Patrick would give the home crowd one more trip for six with 8:41 in the third. He dashed towards the endzone from 17 yards away to go up 42-0.

One positive for Madison was that the defense was able to intercept the backup quarterback twice in the second half. Justin Sphear, who is listed a linebacker on the roster, came in for Georgiou in the third to alleviate him of his duties.

Georgiou was lights out on his nine pass attempts. He completed seven for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

Patrick would also be rested for the rest of the game as well. He put up his usual videogame-like stats. His outing tonight included only seven carries but he totaled 116 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 1 catch for 21 yards and a touchdown.

The wide receivers made the most of their opportunities as well. Cardona led the pack with 3 receptions, 76 yards and one touchdown. Richmond and Thomas O’Brien both hauled in two a piece. Richmond tallied 76 yards and O’Brien 47.

With this win, Kenston has now won the last six meetings against Madison.
