Hudson, Ohio – The Hudson Explorers won their fourth straight regional championship, defeating the Hoover Vikings, 11-6, at Hudson Memorial Stadium Thursday night.
The Hoover Vikings were making their first regional final appearance in school history with a 10-6 win over Medina Tuesday evening. They got off to a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from senior Avery Miller. Lauren Brownley responded with a goal of her own to even the score at 1. Grace Sgro gave the Vikings back the lead a short time later with a goal of her own.
Hudson didn’t take long to respond as Laine Lewis found the back of the net, knotting the score at two a piece. Lewis added another goal to give the Explorers a 3-2 lead with 53 seconds left in the opening stanza. A Claire Orazen goal made the score 4-2 at the end of one.
Hudson increased their lead to 7-2 at the half with three goals in the second quarter. Ashli Pearson led off the stanza with her first goal of the game, and Laine Lewis and Claire Orazen each found the back of the net.
Freshman Libby Travis increased the Explorer lead to 8-2 with a goal in the third quarter. Stella Somers responded with a Hoover goal to cut the deficit to 8-3. The Explorers added a pair of goals, and the Vikings added one, making the score 10-4 after three.
Nandi Kitchens scored a goal to cut the Hoover deficit to 10-5, but that was as close as the Vikings would get the rest of the way. Lauren Brownley added her second with 5:23 left to increase the lead to 11-5. Lila Streb added a goal for the final margin.
The Explorers will be facing off against a familiar opponent in Olentangy Liberty on Tuesday, June 2nd at Ashland University. The Patriots defeated New Albany, 13-8 in the Division 1, Region 1 championship.
