Holy Name GreenWave Dominate the Parma Redmen 42-6

PARMA, OH – The Parma Redmen hosted the Holy Name GreenWave at Byers Field on Friday night. The Redmen came into the game searching for their first win of the season, while the GreenWave came into the game looking to bounce back after losing to Elyria Catholic last week.

The Holy Name GreenWave started off the game dominant and never looked back. The GreenWave was led by senior quarterback Jayvon Williams, junior wide receiver Andrew Cole and senior running back Kriztion Sanchez.

Jayvon Williams’ veteran presence was on display tonight. He led his offense to a brilliant performance. Williams threw a 30-yard completion that led to a GreenWave touchdown. His quick thinking and accuracy led the GreenWave offense to score 42 points tonight.

Andrew Cole came up clutch for Holy Name tonight. He caught a 30-yard pass from Williams to put the GreenWave into the red zone. Later in the game, he carried the ball 16-yards to put the GreenWave in field goal range.  His speed and athleticism helped contribute to the great team win.

Kriztion Sanchez was a silent offensive weapon for the GreenWave. All night, Sanchez’s quick feet allowed him to outrun the Redmen’s defense. Sanchez constantly extended the GreenWave’s drives and helped him score. His 19-yard carry for a touchdown got the momentum rolling for the GreenWave and they never looked back.

The GreenWave came out strong on their first drive. After forcing the Redman to a quick three and out, senior quarterback Jayvon Williams connected with junior wide receiver Andrew Cole for a 30-yard pass completion that put the GreenWave into the red zone. After a 4-yard carry by senior running back Kriztion Sanchez, Williams linked up with Cole for a 10-yard touchdown pass. Sophomore kicker Chase Jozity scored the extra point for the GreenWave with a perfect kick putting the GreenWave up 7-0 with 8:43 left in the 1st quarter.

The Redmen’s offense was no match for the GreenWave’s defense. The GreenWave forced the Redman to quick three and outs every drive in the 1st quarter.

Williams and the GreenWave offense dominated late in the first quarter. The dynamic duo of Williams and Kriztion Sanchez contributed to the GreenWave’s scoring drive. Sanchez evaded the Redmen’s defense and carried the ball 19 yards, right into the endzone for the GreenWave’s second touchdown of the night. Another perfect kick by Chase Jozity put the GreenWave up 14-0 with 2:06 left in the first.

The GreenWave quickly found themselves back in the red zone after a botched Redmen punt. With seconds left in the 1st quarter, the GreenWave were back on the 8-yard line with first and goal.

To begin the second quarter, Jayvon Williams handed the ball off to senior running back Austin Wondolowski, who ran the ball into the end zone for the touchdown. Jozity continued his perfect night, scoring the extra point for the GreenWave. Holy Name found themselves starting the second quarter up 21-0 with 11:56 left to play in the half.

The Redmen defense was able to put pressure on the GreenWave’s offense. Senior linebacker Will Shannon and senior defensive linemen Alejandro Castro led the Redman’s defensive charge. Danny Greyson also had a pivotal play for the Redman defense after he intercepted Williams to give the Redmen the ball.

Following Greyson’s interception, the GreenWave bounced back. Junior linebacker William Dix Jr. quickly got the ball back into Holy Name’s possession after he recovered a fumble. Jayvon Williams threw a 25-yard pass to Andrew Cole to put the GreenWave at 1st and goal. Kriztion Sanchez ran the ball into the endzone for a 4-yard touchdown. Jozity continued his busy night, securing the extra point and Greenwave extended their lead 28-0 with 4:37 left in the half.

With only 42 seconds left in the half, Parma finally found themselves putting points on the board. Senior linebacker Cam Yon recovered a fumble and he couldn’t be stopped. The GreenWave defense could not catch Yon as he ran right into the endzone, scoring the Redmen’s first touchdown of the night.

To start off the second half, things looked promising for the Redmen. Sophomore safety Cam Wadsworth intercepted Jayvon Williams to quickly give the Redmen the ball. The GreenWave defense answered right back after senior defensive back Kesean Garner intercepted sophomore quarterback, Lennon Larson. Garner tore down the field and into the end zone for a pick six. The GreenWave extended their lead to 35-6 with 8:41 in the 3rd quarter.

The GreenWave quickly found themselves back in possession of the football. Senior defensive lineman Jeremy Wallace intercepted Larson’s pass and bolted down the field. He was stopped on the 13-yard line to put the GreenWave at first and goal. Williams handed the ball off to Sanchez who ran the ball 13 yards into the endzone for a touchdown. Jozity came on and got the extra point and the GreenWave continued their dominating performance of 42- 6 with 7:19 left to play in the 3rd quarter.

The Redmen were able to stop the GreenWave from adding to their lead. After a 16-yard run by Andrew Cole, Alejandro Castro and the Redmen defense were able to stop the GreenWave’s offensive momentum. They forced the GreenWave to settle with a field goal attempt and Chase Jozity ended his perfect night. His attempt was no good and the final score on the night was 46-6 Holy Name.

I feel that tonight’s player of the game was Kriztion Sanchez. Sanchez had two carries into the end zone for touchdowns tonight. His speed could not be stopped, and he played an important role in Holy Name’s impressive team win.

Next week, the Parma Redmen still look for their first win of the season as they host the Buckeye Bucks at home next Thursday, September 22.

The Holy Name GreenWave look to keep their momentum rolling and pick up another win next Thursday, September 22, as they host the Lakewood Rangers at home.
