High School Girls Basketball Year End Awards 2024

Most Improved Player

Rachel Nash of Westlake

She is the most un assuming student athlete you will ever meet.  She has a face on her that is easy going, but when you try to get a rebound over her, watch out!  What a joy it was this year seeing Rachel make that leap from backup, to game changer every time she checked in.

Nash is set to graduate towards the very top of her class this year as her intelligence on and off the court helps her shine.  With brains, heart and hustle, Nash will go far in life.  I never expected her to make the jump she did this year, but she proved this sportswriter wrong as she attacked the boards and knew to go right back up with it.  Something every kid is taught from the time they are old enough to dribble a ball.

She played with a smile, played hard and played smart.  You cannot ask for much more than that!

We spoke with her head coach at Westlake, Brittany Matuschek, who had this to say about Rachel, “This year Rachel Nash has really defined herself as a glue player for the Demons. She does whatever is needed at all times on both ends of the court.  Very efficient player who keeps our offense high level by setting up her teammates, running the rims, or knocking down key shots. Very rarely makes mistakes on the floor and is a model teammate. “
