2024 High School Girls Basketball Year End Awards

Perry, Ohio- The Arcs of Lyndhurst Brush High School faced off against the Lady Pirates of Rocky River High School for the District Championship on Friday night at Perry High School. The Arcs were able to prevail thanks to an early onslaught in the first quarter with a final score of 60-52.

The beginning of the game was defined by the speed, quickness and tenacity of the Arcs on both the offensive and defensive end and the Lady Pirates did not have any answer for it.  The Arcs were able to suffocate the Lady Pirates offense with a 2-1-2 full court which created 7 turnovers in the first quarter.  The Arcs were able to get to the rim very easily on the offensive end with 4 lay ups and 3 three pointers. The Arcs were paced by one of their two freshmen stars Chaniyra McDowell-Isaacs who had 10 points in the first quarter. The scoreboard showed a score of Arcs 17 Lady Pirates 7 after the first period.

The second period was a slower more methodical pace and the Lady Pirates were able to outscore their opponent 11-10 thanks to the play of  Ava Patti who singled handedly held her team in this game. The score after two periods was Arcs 27 Lady Pirates 18.

Ava Patti was able to break several school records this evening. She broke her single game scoring record with 36 points. She also became Rocky River’s all-time leading female scorer and broke the record with most points scored in a single season.

The Lady Pirates were not able to hit many crucial shots down the stretch and the Arcs other freshmen phenom Tatiana Mason(who is the daughter of coaching legend Chet Mason)was able to make 8 of 9 free throws in the final 3 minutes to seal the victory 60-52.

“I was so impressed by the maturity and toughness our freshmen showed tonight” declared Arcs head coach Demarris Winters after the game. “It is win or go home time  and they all stepped up tonight and embraced the pressure.”
