Two rival schools, the gym packed, the fans chanting and just an amazing atmosphere that you look forward to all day. It almost reminds me of the days growing up playing CYO basketball and having both student bodies being there for a big game.
If you want to watch a game in a great atmosphere, show up to a Magnificat home game sometime. It is a small cozy gym, but they pack them in and it takes me back to my childhood every single time! As cool as the atmosphere in the gym is, you need to sneak over to the concession stand where the true magic show begins.
They have all your basics covered and then unveil the greatest High School Concession stand hot dog you will ever consume. They even have hot dog themed nights. Unlike some places that offer 2 or 3 toppings, the Blue Streak hot dog table of condiments, offers nearly 20 and if you are there on the right night, it is chili dog time!
Again, food aside, it is just a really cool place to check out a game, and everything down to sound of the announcers voice in the pre-game prayer, will give you chills. A game in this gym is a must. Imagine Hoosiers, but not that small, however, every bit as special!
I spoke with Magnificat Athletics director Paul Barlow about the unique environment that his school provides, “We have strived to try to adopt an identity that will give us a significant home court advantage for our team while at the same time being welcoming to the opponents. I think that we have achieved this – with the support of the school – by trying to give our fans a great experience from the physical look of the venue to our staff to our concessions.”
