TAMPA, FL-On the last leg of a tough two-week roadtrip, the Kent State Football team could not score with ease as they lost to the South Florida Bulls, 29-2.
Moving to 2-5(1-2), the Golden Flashes will need to play a perfect brand of football for the rest of the season if they want to make it to the conference championship
It was another rough, directionless performance for redshirt quarterback Dru DeShields and his offense, as they could not move the ball throughout the majority of the game.
Kent State managed just two points throughout nearly every quarter of Saturday night’s contest in Tampa Bay, continuing a trend that’s been present since the Golden Flashes lost to Ohio.
The KSU running game, led by freshman Brandon White, continued to struggle for yards. Head coach Mark Carney has yet to name a lead back in that position group-a key storyline heading into the Flashes return to Dix Stadium next week.
Freshman and Glenville alum Dion’Dre Taylor started the scoring with a safety in the first quarter. Following that, the Bulls scored 24 unanswered points.
South Florida quarterback Michael Van Buren played very well, tossing just five incompletions to 22 completions.
The Golden Flashes will head back to their home turf for a date with the rival Akron Zips(1-6, 0-3). Despite the rough road trip, Carney’s squad will need to put it behind them and look for KSU’s first home win against their hated rival since 2022.
