Firelands had their way with Oberlin in their homecoming game with them scoring any way they wanted. Firelands was able to get every one of their running backs a touchdown, while quarterback Jim Aunspaw had two passing touchdowns.
Oberlin could not get anything to work for them with the Firelands defense running right through them on every play, making this one a shutout, 65-0.
FIRST HALF
Firelands started the game off with the ball, receiving it around their own 42 yard line. Aunspaw and the Falcons were able to move the ball down field with ease against the Oberlin Phoenix defense. Aunspaw threw a couple of passes to Kevin Williams III. Eventually, Williams was able to bring a pass in for a 28-yard touchdown.
The Phoenix got the ball on the return and were not able to gain any yards as the Falcons defense shut them down. One of the tailbacks to score was Evan Tester. He punched it in from 11 yards out.
The Phoenix would quickly give the Falcons another chance to increase their lead with Julian Anderson Gaines tossing an interception. Utilizing the “running back by committee,” they were able to score again. This time it was Weston Strader for the five-yard score.
Oberlin shot themselves in the foot with a costly mistake near their goal line. A wild snap sent the football into the endzone resulting in a safety and a 23-0 score. A connection of Aunspaw to Abel Coutrip right before the half extended their gap to close out a ridiculous offensive onslaught.
SECOND HALF
The Falcons picked up right where they left off, reaching the pylon on their first play of the second half. A 49-yard rush by Strader got the wheels turning once more.
Another crazy snap from Oberlin put themselves in a precarious situation around their own five yard line. The Phoenix would have to punt as a result.
The hits just kept coming because said kick was returned by Falcon Cory Ransom for a 49-yard house call, making the score 44-0. After more non-existent offense from The Phoenix, the third tail back, Collin Scott, would join the touchdown festivities.
When the dust settled the scoreboard lit up 65-0 with remnants of the The Phoenix defense on the turf.
