Cathedral Prep Defeats Holy Name, 8-3
The Cathedral Prep Ramblers girl’s lacrosse team won their first game of the season against the Holy Name Green Wave.
The first quarter started off strong with a quick point scored by the Green Wave. The Green Wave held onto that lead for the majority of the first quarter and kept the action going on the field to prevent the Ramblers from scoring.
Unfortunately, the Ramblers were able to keep up and managed to score two points, gaining the lead going into the second quarter. One of those points was scored by Lillian Gallagher, junior defense for the Ramblers. The other point was scored by junior Presley Nicolia, another defensive player for the Ramblers.
At the start of the second quarter, goalie for the Green Wave, freshman Kersten Kochtanek, made an impeccable save. This sparked some momentum for the Green Wave. There was a lot more action on the field throughout the second quarter. The Ramblers had good defense to combat the plays made by the Green Wave.
Sophomore Ella Pawlowski, of the Green Wave, took control of the ball and made a great play to bring it back down to their attack zone. Pawlowski handed it off to freshman Kendyl Estep who was able to make the score bringing it to a tie game.
Before the half was over, Cathedral Prep made sure they remained in control of the game by scoring three points back-to-back. The first was scored by freshman attack, Brooke Powers. Powers scored two points total during the game. The next was scored by junior attack, Lilly Blake. The last score of the half was scored by junior defense, Katie Toohey making the score at half time 5-2, with the Ramblers back in the lead.
While this was not necessarily a high scoring game, the amount of action that still occurred on the field from both teams is something to applaud. At the start of the third, Kendall Krahe, freshman attack on the Ramblers, made a great play that ended up with a score for the team.
The Green Wave responded with a score of their own making it 6-3. That point was scored by sophomore Claire Wisniewski. As the game went into the fourth and final quarter, the score was 6-3.
Even though the Green Wave tried their best and fought for more points, in the end, the Ramblers came out on top winning 8-3. This was the first win of the season for the Ramblers.
Other notable goal scorers of the game; Taylor Benacci, freshman attack on the Ramblers.
