Caffey becomes Avon’s new all-time leading rusher in 45-7 win over Midview

Avon, OH – The Avon Eagles welcomed the visiting Midview Middies in a Week 7 showdown, where Avon protected their undefeated record with a 38-7 win on Friday night.

As Avon looked to continue their undefeated season, they could not have asked for a better start. On the opening kickoff, Avon junior Tyler Kaufmann returned the ball for an 80-yard touchdown run to begin the game. The Eagles would then have an impressive first showing on defense and allow the offense to quickly return back on the field.

On his first carry of the night, Avon senior and Cincinnati football commit Jakorion Caffey would rush for 9 yards, securing him as Avon’s all-time leader in rushing yards. Caffey would immediately follow the historic run with a 21-yard touchdown to stretch the lead 14-0.

Midview would try to answer back with a score of their own as senior quarterback Ethan Elbert would look to lead them downfield. Elbert connected with senior wide receiver Dane West on several catches to enter their own red zone but would come up short and result in a turnover on 4th down.

The Eagles would look to take advantage of the defensive stop with junior quarterback Nolan Good leading them offensively. On their first play of the second quarter, Good would find junior wide receiver Cole Kepner for a 43-yard reception. This would set Avon up in excellent field position and result in a field goal kick to extend the lead 17-0. The momentum would continue the following possession, as Good would find junior wide receiver Matt Maxey on 3 consecutive completions, totaling 54 yards. Caffey would help to cap off an excellent drive for the Eagles with a 28-yard touchdown run.

The Middies would continue to fight for offensive momentum as Elbert would rush for several yards, but the Avon defense continued to fight back. Forcing another 4th and long position, the Middies would lose possession and Avon would receive the ball with just under 4 minutes remaining in the first half.

Good would connect on another pass downfield, this time with Kaufmann, as they would earn nearly 30 yards on the reception. This would place the Eagles in their own red zone, where Good would scramble out of the pocket and punch the ball in for a 15-yard touchdown run.

Midview came out in the second half explosive, as Dane West would return the kickoff and set the offense up with great field position. After several completions and rushes downfield, Midview would find themselves in the red zone once again and Elbert would rush the ball in for a 16-yard touchdown run.

Avon responded with an explosive drive of their own, with several completions to help march them downfield. Good found sophomore wide receiver Jakob Weatherspoon in the endzone for a near 40-yard completion, which would push the score to 38-7.

Time would expire and the Avon Eagles would protect their undefeated record with a 45-7 win, moving to 8-0 on the year.

Avon was led by Junior quarterback Nolan Good and senior running back Jakorion Caffey. Good passed for 215 yards, on 11 completions, and had two touchdowns. Caffey ran for nearly 100 yards, on just 7 carries, and had two touchdowns.

Midview was led by senior quarterback Ethan Elbert and senior wide receiver Dane West.
