The Berea-Midpark Titans went on the road to take on the Elyria Pioneers and picked up a dominant 45-0 victory. The Titans began this game looking unstoppable, as they put up all 45 points in the first half. It was an equally impressive performance from the Titans defense, as they held the Pioneers to just 1 first down all game.
Xaviere Harden got the scoring started with a 34-yard touchdown run. Harden struck again on the following drive with a 15-yarder to make it 12-0. Harden had 60 rushing yards on just 6 carries. Nate Byland extended the lead to 18-0 with a 5-yard touchdown. The kicking game was a problem for the Titans on the night, as their first 3 extra points of the night were all blocked.
In the second quarter, Berea-Midpark kept piling on. Dylan Papushak found Denym Gray wide open in the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown. Nick Reece then took a screen pass from Papushak 43-yards for another Titans score. After a big return from Reece, it only took one play to make it 38-0 when Papushak connected with Ty Maroney for his 3rd passing touchdown.
Papushak added a rushing touchdown just before halftime. Berea-Midpark took a 45-0 lead into the break. That was all we would see from Papushak and the Titans starters in this game. Papushak finished the night 6 for 8 with 132 passing yards, 3 carries for 37 rushing yards, and 4 total touchdowns.
In the second half, the Titans were focused on running the clock out. The Pioneers finally got their first stop of the night when Elijah Mayes got a strip sack on Titans backup Jayden Berghaus. The lone highlight of the 4th quarter was Eric Baker intercepting Pioneers quarterback Zach Fury for the Titans first defensive turnover on the night.
The Titans improve to 6-3 and will close out the regular season against the Avon Lake Shoremen next week. The Pioneers drop to 0-9 and will end their season on the road against the Avon Eagles.
