Palmyra, Ohio – The Southeast Pirates defeated Garrettsville Garfield, 11-1, in five innings on Saturday afternoon.

Garfield senior outfielder Anthony Demma hit what appeared to be a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. However, the ball hit the top of the wall and bounced into play, and the umpire ruled it a ground-rule double.

The hit gave the G-Men an early 1-0 lead.

However, Southeast rallied in the second inning. Evan Riffle hit a popup to right field that was misplayed. He later came around and scored on a two-out single.

Riffle would add a two-run double to center field to give the Pirates the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the third.

A wild pitch, and a two-run inside the park home run by senior infielder Carter Ault increased the Southeast lead to 6-1.

In the bottom of the third, Riffle delivered a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 7-1.

The Pirates added three runs on a hit batsman, a fielder’s choice, and a walk to end the game.

Senior pitcher Thomas Sharish came on in relief in the second inning. He shut the G-Men down Saturday, throwing four innings of shutout ball, and striking out seven in the process.

Southeast (2-3) travels to defending Division IV state champ Warren JFK on Monday afternoon to continue PTC play.

Garr. Garfield (5-5) travels to Columbiana Crestview on Monday afternoon to continue MVAC play.
