by The Burning River Buckets used a stifling press defense for stretches of the first and second halves to cruise to a 106-86 victory at home over the visiting Chicago Rebels last night. They were paced by Dylan Contento who had a career night with 38 points and eight boards while teammates KT Taylor stepped up with 17 and Justin Fritts had 16.
This team has heart and it showed again as The Rebels built a 52-37 lead at the half. A Fritz three ball early in to the third extended the lead to 55-37 and things were looking great for the Buckets. But then the Buckets watched as the Rebels cut into their lead as Yoshi Craig, Eric Spencer and the Rebels began to heat up. Eventually they would cut the lead to 61-55 with 5 minutes to go in in the third. This was a 18 to 6 run over a 10 minute stretch that put the Rebels back in the game.
The Rebels would keep pace with the Buckets the rest of the third quarter as the frame would end with the Buckets clinging to a 74-69 lead. It was between quarters that head coach Tim Koenig changed things up and went back to the press style defense for the fourth quarter. The change of pace would create the turnovers and transition points the Buckets needed to pull away yet again, putting the Rebels away for good.
The Buckets now have wins over the Chicago Bulldogs, Akron Aviators and Chicago Rebels as they will look to stay perfect on the road against the Ohio Bruins on Nov 28.
