2022-2023 SWC Comeback Players of the Year
Molly Drenik of Avon
My goodness did we see the emergence of Molly Drenik this season. After seeing an abundance of playing time as a freshman, she spent a good chunk of time last year banged up. She was healthy this season and an absolute force out there! We LOVED watching Drenik play as she was a warrior on the boards and a game changer.
Head Coach Maggie Ferrando deserves more than a gold star in our book, Ferrando got the best out of everyone on this team, and Drenik was a shining example of that. Avon will be a force next year, despite losing some incredible seniors, they are deep and well coached!
Kendall Braaten of Berea-Midpark
Kendall Braaten is one of the most gifted athletes I’ve ever seen dribble a basketball. From covering her at Laurel to covering her as a Titan last season, you could see it jump off the page. She missed almost her entire senior season this year, and that’s a shame because if she hadn’t, she would have been a front runner for MVP.
The bottom line for Braaten, she worked her tail off to get back on the court and tore it up when she did. The Titans started winning games instantly upon her return and she even reached her 1000 th point as well. Kid’s a gamer, remember the name folks. Rumor has it her younger sister is a baller too, excited to watch her play coming up!
Mya DiFranco of Midview
How good is the DiFranco family at hoops? Well, I could have given you about 35 reasons why Olivia could be the SWC MVP this season, why Freshman Leah is a rising star, and why the only thing that kept Mya away from being an MVP candidate was injuries. Mya, is another one of those generational talents that we’ve had the pleasure to cover the past 4 years. We’re glad she was back for the most important part of the season as well. Congrats Mya, we will miss you!
Talyssa Moody of Berea-Midpark
After a year away from the SWC, it was great to have Moody back. A sharp shooter from the outside, and just one heck of a good kid as well. A quality teammate and person, and we were thrilled to get to cover her senior year in which she shined.
