SWC Quarterback of the Year
Berea-Midpark Titan Luke Devins
Reason – The 3-year southpaw starter grew leaps and bounds in his senior season. Devins led the Titans back to the (traditional) playoffs for the first time in years as he mastered the Jon Hunek offense. Devins led big victories in conference over Midview, Avon Lake, Elyria, Amherst and North Ridgeville as the Titans went 6-4 overall, and 5-2 in conference.
Devins would finish with a conference high 2,290 yards and 21 touchdowns on 172 of 281 passing. He stood in the pocket and took the hits when he had too, but he also used his legs to get out of trouble at times as well. Luke had 296 yards with 7 touchdowns on 95 carries. The only player to have more carries was has his brother Devin who had 123 carries for 693 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He had some incredible weapons to throw the ball too as well. Devin Johnson caught 37 balls for 560 yards and 6 touchdowns. Jack Arnold finished with 45 catches for 632 yards and 5 touchdowns. DeAngelo Borders had 34 catches for 517 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Not only did Devins lead the Titans to the playoffs, but he and the Titans stepped up huge last weekend on the road in Brunswick with a big road playoff win. This week they have their toughest test all year as they travel to play St. Edward.
In his career with the Titans, Devins was the Jenny’s Old Fashioned Popcorn Player of the Week and also one of the few players to ever appear on the Player Spotlight Series podcast twice in his Sophomore and Junior seasons.
Good luck to Luke and congrats.
I’d challenge this with Isaiah Johnson from Elyria
