As a father of two daughters ages 5 and 8, I think it is wonderful to see female athletics flourishing the way they are these days. This is much different then when I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and it makes me very happy to see it. The exposure for girls sports is 10x better than it was back then, and it is about time!
Every once in awhile, you get a crossover in which a female plays a sport only offered to boys. Examples of that being hockey, wrestling and football. Every time I see it, it makes me smile even more.
Both the Avon Lake Shoremen and North Ridgeville Rangers featured female place kickers this year who continued to breakdown barriers, and shatter glass ceilings. Congrats to Bella Antonio of North Ridgeville and Julia Hurd of Avon Lake. Thank you for being great role models to not only my daughters, but little girls everywhere who hear your story.
Avon is known for their high scoring dynamic offense, and nothing says dynamic like a female wide receiver and that is what they have with the talented Lexi Frank. She puts her body on the line with linebackers and hard hitting safeties who don’t care that she is a girl, they are going to try and tackle her just the same. That speaks volumes. She is in her third year with the Eagles.
I’d challenge this with Isaiah Johnson from Elyria
