WWE Day 1 Preview & Predictions

Tonight, the WWE debuts their newest PPV “Day 1”.  Let’s take a quick look at the card and explain who we see coming out ahead and why.

Cesaro & Richochet vs Ridge Holland & Sheamus

Prediction – Cesaro & Richochet remind me of the 90’s WWE.  The guys you would see win each week on WWE Superstars or Challenge, but never see win on a PPV.  They have a name and a mini push large enough to make a select group of fans root for them, but you still know they are not winning anything big.

With that being the case, the WWE is working pretty hard to create a solid push for Ridge Holland who appears to be one of the guys drafted from NXT that the WWE will not be cutting.  I think Holland can be a player on the main roster and see Sheamus and himself winning tonight.

RK Bro vs The Street Profits for the Raw Tag Team Championship

Prediction – Haven’t we all been awaiting for the eventual heel turn from Orton on Riddle? I still see it happening, but not tonight as they wouldn’t be dropping the straps to a fellow face team.  Look for RKO to retain.

Drew McIntyre vs Madcap Moss

Prediction – There is no question that McIntyre is winning this match, the only suspense is how quick?

Becky Lynch vs Liv Morgan

Prediction – Becky Wins and Morgan is wished the best in her future endeavors by Presidents Day.

Edge vs The Miz

Prediction – The two veterans will get it done and should provide one of the best matches of the night. Ever since Edge has been back, his matches routinely steal the show. It truly doesn’t matter who wins this match as both are over the top established.  I’m just not sure if this is a one and done, or they are setting the stage for a long and epic feud.  I’ll go with Edge for betting sake.

The Uso’s vs The New Day for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships

Prediction – I feel as though we’ve seen this match a couple of hundred times before.  Despite the tread on the tires of this one, it should entertain like it always does.  I actually see a shocker in this one and the belts flipping hands to The New Day so they can hold all the gold at night’s end.

Big E vs Seth Rollins vs Bobby Lashley vs Kevin Owens

Prediction – The original thought was that Owens would take the pinfall as he had one foot out of the door.  That is no longer the case as he has recently resigned with the company.  Still though, even though he won’t win, he seems the most likely to get pinned.

Bobby Lashley is still a legit monster who is over regardless of strap status.  Rollins is doing some of his best work as a heel, and the without the belt changing hands, Big E over Owens seems like the most likely scenario.

Roman Reigns defends his Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar

Prediction – I cannot wait for this match.  Yes, it has been done to death, but never with this much mystique behind it.  I think we can count on Sami Zayn getting involved to assist Reigns and that is why his match versus Shinsuke Nakamura has been pulled. Also, you would have to think we have not seen the last of Paul Heyman just yet either.

Does today set up a possible WrestleMania main event?  Or is this just the next portion of this big angle?  Time will tell but somehow someway the belt stays with Reigns.
