VIDEO: Hudson defeats Copley, 16-3, in rainy Tuesday night contest

Hudson, Ohio – On a rainy Tuesday night at Hudson Memorial Stadium, the Hudson Explorers defeated the visiting Copley Indians, 16-3, in a Suburban League crossover.

Hudson struck first with a goal from Laine Lewis, coming off the assist from Lauren Brownley. The Explorers would add a pair of goals each from Mackie Stickler, and Grace Churchwell, as well as Ava Kuss, resulting in a 6-0 lead after one.

Copley would score a pair of goals to cut their deficit to 6-2. Freshman Colleen McAlonie put the Indians on the scoreboard early in the second quarter. Sophomore Gabby Smargiasso followed up not too long after.

Five different Explorer players found the back of the net in the second quarter. Churchwell scored her third, and Ava Kuss her second. Renee Morgan, Audra Lozina, and Lauren Brownley were the other scorers, helping Hudson to an 11-2 lead at the half.

Kuss would increase the Hudson lead to 12-2, scoring her third goal of the game at the 9:21 mark of the third. Grace Churchwell added her 4th goal with 6:02 remaining, and her 5th 90 seconds later. Gabby Smargiasso found the back of the net for Copley with 3:08 left in the third.

Hudson would cap the scoring in the fourth quarter with goals from Renee Morgan and Lexie St. Pierre.

The Explorers (8-2) host Eastern High School out of Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, April 26th. They will host Western Reserve Academy on Saturday, April 27th.

Copley (5-4) hosts Wooster on Thursday, April 25th, and travels to Perrysburg on Saturday, April 27th.
