The Valley Forge football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 24-21 win over Rocky River. The team was led by senior half back Michael Pappas who was forced to move back to fullback early in the game due to injuries.
Anthony Janowski’s strong play at fullback enabled Pappas to stay fresh and carry the load late in the game. The Patriots ball control offense was just enough to hold off the quick strike Pirate attack.
The three headed monster of Shanchez Perry, Kentrel Marks, and Antwan Torres sparked the Patriots and enabled them to run the clock out late in the game. With 5:04 left the the Patriots gained possession after a Pirate score, cutting the lead to 3.
That is when the offensive line consisting of Tim Vanier, Logan Mahood, Julius Sebille, Isaiah Kammer, Max Dieye, and Tim Mckinley took over and dominated the line of scrimmage.
The key moment coming on 4th and 2 from the 48 hardline with 1:45 to go. Coach Deangelis trusted his line to open the hole and Marks to finish the run and seal the victory.
Defensively Kammer, Werner Scheffler, and Vanier were a force all game tracking down ball carries and disrupting the quarterback. Joshua Jones, Dieye, Ricky Linville, and Malachi Tate harassed the Pirate offensive all night.
After the game Coach Deangelis was emotional “I hate to punt. I trusted our guys to make the play when we needed it the most. That’s how champions act”. Next up a date with cross town rival Parma Senior Saturday, 7:00 Byers Field.
