UFC 273 Hot Takes

Aljamain Sterling wins a highly disputed 48-47 Split Decision

Aljamain Sterling responded from a very slow first round of running around avoiding getting hit, to have a dominant second round almost forcing Yan to tap several times.  Yan survived several choke attempts to survive a dangerous round and make it into the third.

It was then more of the same in the third round as Sterling kept it on the ground and won the grappling game. The bottom line in that second and third round was that Sterling had every chance to put Yan away and couldn’t do it.

Yan came out in the fourth round like a house on fire with several thunderous shots that rocked Sterling.  The problem being, that even though got the best of the standup, Sterling managed to get Yan to the ground and slow him down midway through the round.

In the fifth and final round, Yan won the striking and towards the end when it went to the ground, he used side control to win the round in my eyes.  I had it

10-9 Yan

10-8 Sterling

10- 9 Sterling

10 – 9 Yan

10 – 9 Yan

I had it a draw 47-47

I have no clue what fight the two judges who had it 48-47 were watching?  At the worst, this was a draw.
