UFC 210 Recap and Reaction

BUFFALO, NEW YORK – Daniel “DC” Cormier took one step closer to a rematch with hated rival Jonny Bones Jones with a dominant second round submission win over Anthony Rumble Johnson to retain his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.  Jones continues to taunt his for and it look like only a matter of time before they rematch from their January 2015 clash in which Jones won in dominant fashion.  In shocking fashion, Rumble Johnson actually announced his retirement after the fight in a move no one saw coming.

Four of the five fights on the main card did see a conclusive finish as Charles Oliveria opened it with a rear naked choke submission of Will Brooks at just 2:30 of the opening round.  Also winning by choke on the main card was Cynthia Calvillo in the third round over Pearl Gonzalez after wearing her down for the first two.

The other main card finish was disputed as Chris Weidman lost to Gegard Mousasi by TKO from knees.  Weidman continues to claim false however, stating that he was hit with an illegal blow.  This is now the third straight time the former UFC Middleweight Champion has been finished.  Weidman appears to be in a serious slump right now.

Thiago Alves looked great with a solid decision win over Patrick Cote on the main card as well.  Cote looked as if he’d rather be anywhere else as he lost 30-27 on all 3 cards as it was never close.

The undercard was highlighted by Gregor Gillespie’s 21 second OK win over Andrew Holbrook while Shane Burgos needed 3 rounds to KO Charles Rosa.  The other finish on the undercard came from Myles Jury as he knocked out Mike De La Torre at 3:30 of the first round.
