North Ridgeville girls’ basketball was honoring the national guard with special uniforms for the game against Shaker Heights. They really took that to heart as they played outstanding defense in their 50-22 win.

Coach Esser had a great plan coming into the game and her girls executed it perfectly “We wanted to pack the paint, close all the gaps, work the boards, and really make them shoot contested shots”

The Rangers did exactly that only letting up 10 points in the first half and only allowing two in the first quarter. Shaker Heights continued to feed the ball into the post, but the Ranger defense was not having it. They seemed to block or heavily contest every shot that Shaker Heights put up. Grace Kingery had four blocks herself in the first half to go with her 11 points.

That great team defense and Kingery’s shot making ability gave the Rangers a 24-10 lead going into the break.

The Rangers started the second half quick as Brooke Lime knocked down two threes in a row to push the lead up to 20 points.

The great defense would continue in the second half as the Rangers only let up five points in the third and lead 39-15.

Both coaches would empty their benches for the final few minutes as the game was out of reach at this point. The Rangers would come away with a commanding 50-22 win over the Red Raiders.

Grace Kingery led the way on the offensive end for the Rangers as she finished with 18 points. Grace is obviously a prolific scorer but her coach after the game said she is “underrated” on the other end of the floor. She grabbed double digit rebounds and added a few blocks tonight to show she really is a two-way player.

Cece Favret and Aryn Harris were a bright spot in this tough loss for the Red Raiders as they tied for a team high six points.

North Ridgeville heads to Amherst Steele on Saturday afternoon. The lose makes Shaker Heights 9-5 and they look to bounce back against Garfield Heights on Saturday.
