We all have our favorite sitcoms that have lived in our heart and soul for many years. While we watched them, places the characters would regularly frequent felt real to us, like they existed. Well, in some cases, they do! I went back in the annals of highly popular American sitcoms and developed a list of the top sitcom real life destinations fans have actually planned vacations around. Here are just a few that I personally would love to visit.
Show – Seinfeld
TV Location Name – Monks Café
Real life location – Tom’s Restaurant located at 2880 Broadway, New York, NY 10025
Reason – Who wouldn’t want to walk in and see Kramer, George, Elaine and Jerry sitting there? Perhaps George and Jerry wrapping an awkward date with a woman they plan to leave behind shortly after for any number of insane reasons. Just make sure to leave your syrup at home, they frown upon that sort of thinking, not to mention smoking!
Show – Full House
TV Location – The Full House House
Real life location – 1709 Broderick Street in San Francisco, California
Reason – So many iconic memories happened in that house, including everything from weddings to births and quite a few rock concerts in the basement with Jesse and The Rippers! Make sure to swing by the house next store and say hello to Kimmy Gibbler!
Show – Cheers
TV Location – Somewhere in Boston
Real life location – 84 Beacon St, Boston, MA 02108
Reason – C’mon, who wouldn’t want to tip back a cold one with Norm and Cliff? In my humble opinion, this was the greatest sitcom of the 1980’s that finished very well in the 90’s. It is up there with Seinfeld and the first 7 seasons of The Office as a sitcom that never saw a bad episode.
Show – The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
TV Location – Somewhere in Bel-Air
Real life location – 251 N. Bristol Avenue in Brentwood
Reason – A chance to visit that incredible mansion, sign us up! I’m not sure it includes the pool house that Will and Carlton shared, however. I’m talking about the mansion they used for the bulk of the series, not the front room-based house they used in the first season only. The huge mansion that Uncle Phil was fond of throwing Jazz out the front door.
Show – Friends
Show location – The apartment complex that the main characters all lived in at one point or another during the series.
Real life location – 90 Bedford St, New York, NY 10014
Reason – An avid coffee lover myself, I’d rather visit Central Perk, however, it would be cool to at least drive by this complex and grab a photo or two. Maybe we can even catch Rachel and Phoebe out for a jog.
HONORABLE MENTION
The Fountain in the opening credits of “Married With Children”. Real name, Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain in Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois.
