Tim Alexander Memorial Tournament: Mentor Shuts Out Cleveland Wildcats 6-0

Rocky River, OH –  The Mentor Cardinals used a 19 save shutout by John Rampe with a two goal performance by Alex Jagger to skate past the Cleveland Wildcats 7-0 today.  The Cardinals outscored the Wildcats in each period to cruise to victory.

The Cardinals wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Alex Jagger stuck at the 12:26 mark to steak Mentor out to a 1-0 lead.  Less than three minutes later it was Markus Joeright extending the Cardinal lead to 2-0.  They would get another chance to build the lead but couldn’t cash in on a power play.  The first period would end 2-0.

The second period remained 2-0 for quite a bit until a beautiful reflection of a shot bounced right to Tyler Wilkinson who smashed it in to find the back of the net.  This excellent opportunity made it 3-0 Cardinals. The Cardinal lead would remain 3-0 at the close of the second period and the shutout was due in part to the 13 save performance of John Rampe through two periods of play.

As the third period got underway, Mentor used little time to extend the lead to 4-0 and put the game out of reach.  It was a quick strike by Carson Kramer less than a minute into the final period.

Alex Jagger would score his second of the contest a bit later into the period to make it 5-0 Mentor. The Cardinals would add a little extra icing on the cake towards the end of the period with a Power Play goal to make it 6-0 with 2:32 to go by Brad Backston.

Cle 0 0 0 = 0
