This Is Us: Kevin Steps Up as Kate Falters Again

Brought to you by – Sponsors – KEE On Sports Media Group

After an entire episode was built around Kate finally stepping up and becoming the woman her parents always saw her as, and the person they knew she could be become, she passed the buck and dropped the ball.

Crazy to think right?  An entire episode dedicated to the cliff hanger of, “who will take care of Rebecca now that Miguel is gone?”.  And, even with everything lining up perfectly for Kate to take over, move in and be her full-time caretaker along with Phillip and the kids in that massive house Kevin built, she still tries to pawn it off.

I finally thought this would be the one time in six seasons of this show that I could walk away and say, “wow, I’m really proud of Kate for doing the right thing and proving she is strong and can do anything”.  Yet again, I cannot say that as it turned out to be Kevin who stepped up and saved the day.

SPOILER ALERT for anyone who hasn’t seen the episode yet, and if you haven’t, what the heck are you doing reading this?  Kate was asked to step up by Rebecca if anything ever happened to Miguel, and take over her full-time care.  The first chance Kate got, she once again played the victim woes is me card and tried to pass the work off.  Her asinine solution was to yank Rebecca from her home, her family and move her to LA into a rest home with full time care by strangers.

Kevin, finally had enough, and stepped up in the clutch to do the right thing as Kate failed yet again.  Kevin’s solution was to move into the house with his mother and Sophie, also including Nickie and his wife as well so Rebecca would have full time care and family also constantly there. Randall agreed, and in the end, yet again, Kate failed while someone else made the common-sense adult move.

Clearly it worked out, as Kevin is seen years later, fully gray and still taking care of her as we set up for the final two episodes.  Kevin has stepped it up big time in the last three episodes, almost as if the writers were saving his best for last.

As for Randall, he can still visit often while focusing in on his seat in the senate.  Kate is once again everyone’s lovable loser, despite getting a master’s degree and becoming an amazing adult, she comes off once again as selfish and insecure. Maybe someone can get Phillip one of those 4 Super Bowl Champion Buffalo Bills shirts that Randall referenced.

Two episodes left, grab the Kleenex because it is about to get very emotional!

  1. She did not fail…. Her son is blind and Rebecca would not want to disrupt her grandsons life and care he needs…. Everyone tried…. Came together, talked it out…. A beautiful example we can all learn from.
