Playoff baseball is often decided on the mound, and no team on the Treasure Coast has had better pitching than Vero Beach High School. Led by South Alabama commit Cody Morgan, the Fighting Indians have shut down opposing offenses all season. Alongside dominant performances from Wallace State commit Brandon Walker, Vero Beach continues to prove why elite pitching can carry teams deep into the playoffs.
Cody Morgan Has Set the Tone for Vero Beach
Cody Morgan has continued to establish himself as one of the most dominant pitchers on the Treasure Coast throughout the season. The Vero Beach ace has an ERA of 0.98 while recording 97 strikeouts across 64 innings pitched this season.
Morgan has consistently overwhelmed hitters with his command and ability to attack the strike zone early in counts with only 13 walks on the entire season. His composure in high pressure playoff situations has made him one of the biggest reasons behind Vero’s postseason success. As the playoffs continue, Vero Beach will rely on Morgan to lead its dominant pitching staff.
Walker Gives Vero Beach Another Dominant Arm
Brandon Walker has continued to give Vero Beach another dependable arm throughout the season. Walker showed his toughness after being struck in the face by a batted ball in the fourth inning but remaining in the game before eventually throwing a complete game shutout in a 1-0 victory against Harmony to advance to the 7A Regional Finals.
Walker has an ERA of 0.47 and 73 strikeouts in 59.2 innings. His ability to stay composed in difficult situations has helped make Vero Beach one of the toughest teams to score against. With Walker and Morgan leading this rotation, Vero Beach has developed one of the most intimidating pitching staffs in the state.
Pitching Continues to Lead Vero Beach
Since April 1st, Vero Beach has outscored opponents 57-2 while continuing to establish itself as one of the most feared teams on the Treasure Coast. The Indians have posted a remarkable 0.96 team ERA allowing just 33 runs across 26 games.
The combination of shutdown starting pitching, bullpen depth, and consistency on the mound has allowed Vero Beach to overpower opponents throughout the postseason. With not a single pitcher over a 3.00 ERA, this entire pitching staff has proven capable of leading Vero Beach to their first state championship in school history.
